Drummer and singer Isolde Lasoen is no longer known only as 'drummer of DAAN'. Over the years she has proven to be a versatile musician who commits herself to various bands and projects with great passion and dedication.
After years of being a side woman, Isolde felt more and more like creating her own band, singing and writing music. She started her very own band in 2012, released her first EP L'Inconnu in 2014 (Coucou Records), and a few years later she composed and released her first full album "Cartes Postales" (2017).
In her solo project, simply called ISOLDE LASOEN, she combines drums and lead vocals and has been accompanied by Les Bens since its inception. Together with her excellent musicians, Isolde built up a strong live reputation and performed a long series of successful concerts in various formations.
Nowadays, Isolde's career takes a new turn with a brand new and ambitious solo album. “This is 100% what I want, this record is 100% ME”, she says about ‘OH DEAR', which is out on 8 March 2023.
Isolde built every song up from the drums, vibraphone and her own voice as an instrument. Together with producer Tobie Speleman, she has worked hard to perfect the sound of the drums, the driving force of everything she does in music. Wietse Meys wrote the sublime arrangements for strings and horns, and for the recording sessions of the album Isolde could rely on her beloved and talented
musicians.
Her style can be described as poppy, cinematic, melancholic, rich and eclectic. Characteristic are her seductive voice and lovely backing vocals, French and English lyrics, impressive arrangements and beautiful instrumentals. All ingredients that Isolde herself loves in the music that has inspired her for a lifetime, such as iconic and obscure soundtracks, French yéyé, '60s and '70s psychedelia, orchestral pop or bombastic symphonic music.
As a composer and author, singer, drummer, vibraphonist and driving force of her solo project, Isolde proves that she is an independent woman with a sense of initiative, someone who pursues her dreams.
Isolde meanwhile also plays the drums with DAAN and has worked with numbers of bands and artists, such as Absynthe Minded, Flip Kowlier, Agnes Obel, Novastar, Sophia, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Jef Neve, The Happy, Urbanus, Guido Belcanto, Willy Willy, Jack Parrow, Jack Van Poll, Lowrider, Briskey, The Whodads, and many others.
Besides the live segment, Isolde also works in assignment and from time to time composing music for commercials or film. For the Belgian TV channel CANVAS she hosted the music documentary 'She's Lost In Music'.
Isolde plays on Tama, Zildjian and Vic Firth.
